Indian-origin billionaire businesswoman Vasundhara Oswal recently shared her harrowing experience of spending time in a Ugandan prison. Arrested on false charges, she endured three weeks of torture and human rights violations. According to her, she was imprisoned without committing any crime and had to survive in inhumane conditions.
Who is Vasundhara Oswal?
Vasundhara Oswal is the daughter of billionaire businessman Pankaj and Radhika Oswal. Her father is the founder of Oswal Group Global. Vasundhara resides in one of the world’s most expensive homes, Villa Vari, valued at over $200 million and located in front of Mont Blanc in Switzerland. This luxurious house was designed by renowned interior designer Jeffrey Wilkes.
After earning an honors degree in finance from a prestigious university in Switzerland, Vasundhara joined the board of PRO Industries in 2020, becoming the first female lead in the organization. She currently serves as the Executive Director (Finance) of PRO Industries. Additionally, she is the Managing Director of Axis Minerals, one of the largest bauxite mining projects in Guinea.
False Allegations and Arrest
Last year, Vasundhara was falsely accused of kidnapping and murdering Mukesh Menaria, a former employee of her father. This accusation was later proven false when Mukesh Menaria was found alive in Tanzania. Despite this, Vasundhara was arrested and imprisoned in Uganda.
Inhumane Treatment and Human Rights Violations
Describing her days in prison, Vasundhara revealed that she was denied food and drinking water. After being held in custody for five days, she was imprisoned for two more weeks. Her parents had to bribe police officers through lawyers to provide her with essential supplies.
She stated, “I was not allowed to bathe, nor was I permitted to use the toilet. At one point, a male officer forcibly lifted me and threw me into a van. When I demanded to see a warrant, the officers replied – ‘This is Uganda, we can do whatever we want, you are not in Europe anymore.'”
Bail and Future Plans
Vasundhara was arrested on October 1, 2024, and granted bail on October 21. She disclosed that the police searched her house without a warrant and forcibly took her to the Interpol office.
Now, after being released from prison, Vasundhara plans to raise this issue on an international level. She intends to appeal to human rights organizations to prevent such injustices from happening to innocent people. She believes that strict action must be taken against such incidents.
