The Bedroom is a private place, meant to relax and does not need excessive decoration. Wooden laminate flooring costing upto INR 80 per sq.feet gives a warm cosy effect to the room. Bright direct lights should be avoided. A few up-lighters and a table lamp is enough for the bedroom.
Wardrobes cover a lot of space. A simple wardrobe with a glass or wood shutter would come in the range of INR 35,000 to 40,000. Similarly a simply designed dressing table with storage space behind the mirror or below the desk would come in the range of INR 4000 to 8000. If the room is small, the bed should have proper storage either in the form of trolleys or with a top flap.
A master bedroom furniture scheme with a double storage – type bed with side tables, wardrobes, dressing table, study and television unit and matching doors can be made in different materials such as wood or wrought iron, at a cost of approximately INR 1.5 to 1.75 lakh.
Unlike the master bedroom, the central space of children’s room should be kept open for playing. The room usually requires two single storage – type beds or a bunk bed, wardrobe, study unit with storage and a small dressing table. Depending upon the quality of materials used, this can cost about INR 1.25 lakh.
The wardrobe should be split into two in order to keep the toys separately. Affordable wardrobes are also available for INR 12,000 to 15,000. A wooden laminate study table with rounded corners is always preferable and it would cost just INR 8000. The room needs to be more more colourful. Stools or Ottomans instead of chairs can be used for sitting.
The master bedroom should have indirect lighting that does not fall directly on the eyes, as it is a place to relax. Spotlights fixed on walls with dimmers are a good source of light in bedrooms. There should be a table lamp on the side table for reading at night.
The children’s room should not have lights at a lower level as they might break it while playing. A combination of fluorescent and spotlight mounted in the ceiling or walls at a higher level is advisable. Hidden lights can be used to accentuate certain corners reflecting bright colours or objects like shelves and bunk bed. The total cost of this kind of lighting along with electrical work would be around INR 01 lakh.
