Diwali is a festival of lights! It is the celebration of good over evil, marking the return of Lord Ram after he defeated Ravana. Diwali or Deepawali essentially means the Awareness of the Inner Light. In a way, it is the celebration of the awakening and awareness of the Inner Light which has the power to outshine the darkness.
During the Deepawali celebration, one thing that gets everyone excited about is Diwali shopping! However, shopping means a lot of plastic bags. Let’s say ‘No’ to plastic shopping bags and use cloth bags when going out for shopping.
Pretty and colourful designs of Rangolis make our houses look beautiful, but synthetic colours are dangerous for the environment and unhealthy when inhaled and cause serious health issues.
Let’s opt for rangolis that can be made using flowers or use eco-friendly colours that do not cause harm to our surroundings. Organic rangoli colours are available in the markets easily.
You can use home ingredients in Rangoli for different colors, like Haldi for yellow, coffee powder for brown, and flour for white. To enhance the look, replace plastic flowers with natural ones. Upcycle your home decorations with existing colorful dupattas and sarees instead of plastic ribbons.
Opt for biodegradable plates and glasses which are friendly for the environment and at the same time easy to dispose off. Banana leaf plates, Bamboo plates are a good pick for those festive feasts.
After Diwali, manage all the waste things wisely. Separate the bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste to dispose it properly.
Here’s wishing you all
Shubh Deepawali!
