Decoding Ayurveda

In recent years, especially during the COVID-19 outburst, we tried to reach out to our roots, whether it’s longing to be with our families in our hometowns or to unknown factors with our oldest system of medicine i.e., Ayurveda, which came out as the pivotal medicinal system during a challenging time in India. The word “Ayurveda” refers to the knowledge of life. It is a system that descended from Brahma to Prajapati, Ashwini Kumar, Indra, Agnivesha, and decoded by wonderful Vaidyas in different Samhitas.

There is an abundance of literature available to elucidate the concept of Ayurveda; however, there are three major books, which include CHARKA SAMHITA, SUSHRUT SAMHITA, and ASHTANGA HRIDUYA, contain knowledge about life, food, daily regime, a regime with seasons, the disease and its causative factors, signs, and symptoms including treatment alternatives. Over time, Vaidyas gave us a wonderful “Nectar filled pot” of Ayurveda with their immense research.

We should understand that Ayurveda is not limited to some ” Nani Dadi Ke Nuskhe ” or just to some “Jadi booti”; however, it is beyond that, and it has the power to take us to salvation (Moksha) by keeping our body, mind, and soul healthy by following a health appropriate diet, daily regimen, and a few medicines as per person’s health requirements.
