New Delhi: The head of the World Health Organization said he was very disappointed that China has still not authorised the entry of a team of international experts to examine the origins of the coronavirus.
Addressing a press conference in Geneva, according to AP News, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “We have learned that Chinese authorities have not yet finalized the necessary permission for the team’s arrival in China. I am very disappointed with this news.”
The WHO head said, “I have been in contact with senior Chinese officials and I have once again made it clear the mission is a priority for the WHO.” After which China said that it would complete its procedures as soon as possible.
Tedros said that we are eager to complete the mission as soon as possible. WHO has formed a team of scientists to find out the origin of corona virus. The team will visit Wuhan in China as the first case of corona virus was found in this city.
On Monday, a day before the organization expressed disappointment, China strongly denied the US allegation that the Novel Corona virus had leaked from a laboratory in its place. China stated, there is a possibility that the spread of this pandemic was due to different outbreaks in different places in the world. Hua said, China attaches high importance to cooperation with the WHO. We have been providing support and convenience for WHO”s work.”
China has been proactively questioning the widely-held view that the deadly outbreak broke out in a wet market in Wuhan where the live animals are sold. The market remained closed and sealed since early last year.
In May last year, the World Health Assembly (WHA) – the governing body of the 194-member states of the WHO – approved a resolution to set up an independent inquiry to conduct an impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation of the international response as well as that of WHO. It also asked the WHO to investigate the source of the virus and the route of introduction to the human population.
