COVID-19 vaccine could be ready for India in a few weeks: PM Modi at all party meet

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an all-party meeting with the floor leaders of all political parties of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the country and vaccine development.

“Experts believe that coronavirus vaccine will be ready in the next few weeks. The vaccination will start in India, as soon as scientists give a green signal,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi

PM Narendra Modi says, “Nearly 8 vaccines are on different stages of trial with their manufacturing assured in India. Three vaccines from India are at different stages of development. Experts think that the vaccine isn’t too far away.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed an all-party meeting on corona virus through video conferencing. He said, “We are hearing the names of many other vaccines in the market right now but the world is keeping a watch on the cheapest & safe vaccine. That is why the world is watching India.”

The all-party virtual meeting on the Corona crisis has begun under the chairmanship of PM Modi.

Floor leaders from all parties in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been invited to attend the virtual meeting which started around 10:30 am, the sources said.

This will be the second all-party meeting called by the government to discuss the COVID-19 situation since the outbreak of the pandemic. The last such meeting was held in April when the nation was under complete lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.

Defense minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi and top government ministers attended the meeting. The government is likely to brief MPs about the various steps taken to deal with the epidemic. The topic of development and delivery of the vaccine may also be discussed.

The Congress will be represented by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Ghulam Nabi Azad, while the Trinamool Congress will send Derek O’Brien and Sudip Bandyopadhyay. Vijay Sai Reddy and Midhun Reddy will be present from the YSR Congress Party, sources said.

The Prime Minister held a video conference on Monday with three teams working on the development and manufacturing of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Prime Minister Modi on Saturday visited the premises of pharmaceutical companies of Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Pune to review the work being done for the development of Covid-19 vaccine.
