Desk: The ongoing tariff war between the United States and China has taken a new turn. China has issued a stern warning, stating that any country entering into trade agreements with the United States that go against Chinese interests will not be accepted and will face strong retaliatory measures.
This warning comes at a time when reports indicate that the Trump administration is pressuring several countries to limit trade with China if they seek tariff exemptions from the United States.
Trump’s tariff policies have created tremors globally, with tariffs up to 10% imposed worldwide, but reaching as high as 245% for China. In response, Beijing has imposed tariffs of up to 125% on products from the United States. This policy from the U.S. is now plunging global trade into crisis, with fears of recession deepening.
China has cautioned other countries against neglecting Chinese interests for larger deals with the U.S., warning that such behavior will ultimately harm both sides.
Accusing America of imposing tariffs on all business partners and threatening retaliation under the guise of ‘reciprocal tariffs’ and negotiation, China’s Ministry of Commerce has asserted its capability to defend its rights and vowed to fight this battle to the end.
President Trump claims that negotiations with China are ongoing, stating at the White House, “Yes, we are talking to China. I think we are going to make a very good deal with China.”
However, China has not confirmed these negotiations yet. Instead, Beijing has labeled U.S. policies as unilateral and protectionist, cautioning that they will push the world towards “law of the jungle.”
