Desk:A Canadian citizen was expelled from India after being found involved in promoting Christianity, despite his tourist visa having expired. The police issued a statement confirming the incident.
According to the police, the individual, identified as Brandon Joel Dewalt, had his tourist visa expire on January 7, 2025. However, he continued operating the Grace Church at a mission campus in Jorhat district and participating in Christian missionary activities.
As per NDTV’s report, the police statement revealed, “During the investigation, it was found that his visa had expired on January 7, and he violated visa rules by addressing religious assemblies and promoting Christianity.”
The police informed the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Kolkata, which issued a notice for Dewalt to leave the country. Subsequently, a Jorhat police official escorted him to Kolkata Airport, from where he was taken to Delhi. From Delhi, he boarded a flight to Toronto, Canada.
This is not the first time foreign nationals have been expelled in Assam for violating visa rules. Authorities have issued strict warnings to foreign tourists to adhere to visa regulations.
