Ottawa:Canada has rolled back its decision to impose additional security screenings on travelers heading to India. Transport Minister Anita Anand’s office confirmed to CBC News on Thursday that the restrictions have been lifted. These new measures were introduced just last week. On Monday, Canada had announced heightened caution for India-bound travelers, and Air Canada had issued a notice highlighting the new security protocols.
The notice stated, “Due to heightened security requirements for flights to India, longer wait times are expected for your upcoming flight.” An Air Canada spokesperson confirmed via email that Transport Canada had issued the security directives for India-bound travelers and that Air Canada was complying with them.
Toronto Pearson Airport also posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday evening, warning international travelers about longer-than-usual wait times during pre-boarding screening. The post advised passengers to check with their airlines and arrive early to catch their flights.
Earlier in November, SFJ (Sikhs for Justice) leader and designated terrorist Gurpatwant Pannu had released a video warning Sikh travelers against boarding Air India flights after November 19, claiming their lives could be at risk. Pannu stated it was an appeal to boycott the airline rather than a threat. Following this, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa formally raised the issue with the Canadian government, prompting Transport Canada to enhance security for Air India flights.
Now, with the latest rollback of these measures, India-bound travelers can expect smoother travel without additional security delays.
