Desk:Following the Pulwama attack, security along the India-Pakistan border near Punjab has been intensified. The BSF has heightened surveillance in the region and issued a high alert in the districts of Amritsar, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot, which share a border with Pakistan. With growing tensions between India and Pakistan, the BSF has instructed farmers in these border areas to harvest their wheat crops planted near the barbed wire within 48 hours and vacate their fields.
Additionally, announcements have been made from Gurudwaras to inform farmers that if the crops are not harvested within the given time, the gates will be completely locked. After receiving the orders from the BSF, farmers have begun harvesting their crops swiftly using combine harvesters.
Increased Military Activity on the Border, Orders for Immediate Firing on Suspicious Movements
From Pathankot to Fazilka, a stretch of 553 kilometers along the border, military activities have increased sharply. BSF personnel are now patrolling the villages along the border to gather information about any suspicious activities. Villagers have been urged to immediately report any such activities to the police or BSF. The BSF has also urged villagers to remain fully alert. Quick Reaction Teams have been deployed, and orders have been given to open fire at the first sign of any suspicious movement along the border.
Possibility of Border Villages Being Evacuated
Kaluwala village in Firozpur, which is surrounded on three sides by the Sutlej River and borders Pakistan on one side, is on high alert. The villagers have reported that in times of heightened India-Pakistan tensions, this village is the first to be evacuated. Farmers whose fields are near the barbed wire have been ordered to harvest their crops quickly. There is also a possibility that other border villages in Punjab could be evacuated soon, which has caused fear among the villagers.
Farmers Allowed to Cultivate with Special Permits
Farmers in Punjab’s border villages are granted permission to cultivate crops with special permits. During the sowing and harvesting of crops, BSF personnel are stationed for their security. The barbed wire lies well ahead of the zero line, and only marked pillars are placed along the zero line.
