São Paulo: COVID-19 vaccination is going to start soon in India. The Oxford AstraZeneca and Bharat Biotech vaccines have been approved for use in India. Now President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro has written a letter to PM Narendra Modi requesting him to expedite the shipment of coronavirus vaccine AstraZeneca to Brazil as soon as possible to start the vaccination campaign.
Bolsonaro’s press office has issued this letter. Brazil ranks second among the countries most affected by Corona and there is increasing pressure on President Bolsonaro due to frequent delays in vaccination campaign. Questions are being raised on the government why despite being in such poor condition, vaccination is not being started there at the earliest. Bolsonaro wrote in the letter, shared by his press office, “To enable the immediate implementation of our National Immunisation Program, I would appreciate, the supply to Brazil, with the possible urgency and without jeopardising the Indian vaccination program, of 2 million doses.”
Earlier it was reported that an association of Brazilian private health clinics are in talks with Indian pharmaceutical firm Bharat Biotech to buy 5 million corona vaccines. The Brazilian Association of Vaccine Clinics said on its website that it had signed an agreement with the Indian firm to purchase the Covaxin Corona vaccine, which is currently in its final stages of clinical trials. The deal will be sealed after being approved by the Brazilian Health Regulatory Unit.
