Outgoing President Biden is spending his final day in office in South Carolina, a state of special significance to him. His victory in the 2020 Democratic primary in South Carolina paved the way for his eventual election as President. On the eve of the inauguration of Republican President-elect Donald Trump, Biden plans to bid farewell from the state that played a crucial role in his political journey.
According to the White House, Biden is scheduled to deliver a prayer and a speech at Royal Missionary Baptist Church in North Charleston, reflecting on the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. He is accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden. The federal holiday on Monday honors the late civil rights icon.
Meanwhile, the three hostages released from Gaza have been transferred to an Israeli military camp. The release occurred hours after the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect. The hostages’ families were waiting eagerly to reunite with them. Footage from Al Jazeera, a Qatar-based media outlet, showed the hostages being transported amidst a large crowd, many of whom were recording videos. Armed personnel wearing green Hamas headbands struggled to escort the vehicles through the uncontrolled crowd. The released hostages will undergo medical examinations before being presented publicly.
