New Delhi: The issue of atrocities against minority Hindus in Bangladesh and the arrest of a Hindu priest echoed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. BJP members, including Mathura MP Hema Malini, urged the central government to intervene for the safety of Hindus in the neighboring country and also called for the passage of a resolution in Parliament.
Raising the matter during Zero Hour, BJP MP Hema Malini from Mathura condemned the attacks by extremists on Hindus, as well as on the ISKCON institution and its followers in Bangladesh. She referred to the arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, stating that ISKCON members were doing good work for humanity.
She said, “Chinmoy Krishna Das was peacefully protesting against the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, but he was arrested on charges of sedition and jailed. Two people who testified in his favor were also imprisoned.” Hema Malini further emphasized, “I am a devotee of Krishna and a follower of ISKCON. I represent Krishna’s holy city, Mathura. We will not tolerate atrocities on religion. This is not just a foreign policy issue, but a matter of our emotions.”
She urged the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety of Hindus. BJP MP from Assam, Dilip Saikia, also raised the issue of atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh and demanded, “A resolution should be passed in the Indian Parliament to send a message to the Bangladesh government to take action to stop the atrocities on Hindus.” BJP’s Anil Firojia also requested the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in this matter.
