China has not even spared its ‘all-weather ally’ Pakistan. China, which had once sent pieces of underwear to Pakistan in the name of masks has dashed the hopes of its friend Pakistan in case of corona vaccine.
China that describes itself as a superpower has given only 5 lakh vaccines to Pakistan with a population of 22 crores, that too when Pakistan literally asked for help. Not only this, Pak’s BFF ‘China’ has also insulted Pakistan by asking Pak government to send their airplane and airlift the drug.
According to a report in the Pakistani newspaper Dawn, Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that he had a detailed conversation with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and discussed the needs of Pakistan. Qureshi had sought help from China on the instructions of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. Imran Khan pleaded Beijing for help because of the seriousness of the situation. And Qureshi presented this insult as good news before the citizens of Pakistan.
“I want to give the nation the good news that China has promised to immediately provide 500,000 doses of vaccine to Pakistan by January 31,” Qureshi said. “They (China) have said you can send your airplane and immediately airlift this drug,”
Pakistan is currently the world’s most populous country that hasn’t rolled out a vaccination programme. It is also the only country in the region to have approved the Sinopharm vaccine for emergency use. The approval for Sinopharm earlier this week came days after Pakistan cleared the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The callousness of China towards Pakistan during the corona crisis is a better lesson for Pakistan. The Pak government is either incomprehensible or trying to be mindless in regard to the dishonor that China has done in the name of help. On the other hand, the way India has started helping the neighboring countries by delivering the Corona vaccine is an example and displays our moral values and humanity.
India has sent 10 lakh doses of corona vaccine to the neighboring country Nepal, while its population is less than 3 crores. At the same time, India has given 20 lakh doses to Bangladesh with a population of 16 crore. This is four times more than the vaccines given by China to Nepal.
Earlier to this, promising to provide testing kits and top-quality N95 masks to Pakistan in a bid to help the country that has been crippled by the lethal coronavirus outbreak, China actually duped its ‘friend’ by sending in masks made out of underwears in the month of April 2020.
Reporting the news, a local Pakistani news channel even said, “China ne chuna laga diya” (China conned us) and further notified that the Sindh provincial government sent the masks to hospitals without checking.
