New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the centenary celebrations of Visva- Bharati University in West Bengal via video conferencing. He said that Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s vision for Visva- Bharati is also the essence of self-reliant India.

India’s important role in environmental protection
PM Modi said, “I would like to congratulate and pay respectful greetings to everyone who leads this institution to this height. India is now playing an important role in environmental protection through the International Solar Alliance. India is the only country which is moving on the right path under the Paris Accord.
In the Bhakti era, saints and monks raised consciousness in the country
“The foundations of freedom movements were laid long ago. The freedom movement got energy from many pre-existing movements. In the Bhakti era, saints, monks in every region of India made a relentless effort for the consciousness of the country,” said PM Modi.
Gurudev’s vision was the world should benefit from what is best in India
“The stream of contemplation of India from Vedas to Vivekananda was also vocal in Gurudev’s contemplation of nationalism and this stream was not introverted. This stream was not going to keep India separate from other countries of the world. His (Gurudev) vision was that the world should benefit from what is best in India and that what is good in the world, India should also learn from it,” PM Modi said.
Self-reliant India campaign is also the path of India’s welfare for world welfare
“See the name of your university – Visva-Bharati. Coordination with Maa Bharati and Vishwa. Gurudev’s vision for Vishwa Bharati is also the essence of self-reliant India. Self-reliant India campaign is also the path of India’s welfare for the world welfare. Mentioned the tradition of placing the ‘pallu‘ on the left shoulder
Prime Minister Modi said that the daughter of Gujarat had also come to Gurudev’s house as his daughter-in-law. When Jnanadanandini, wife of Satyendranath Tagore (elder brother of Rabindranath Tagore) lived in Ahmedabad, he noticed that the women kept the sari’s ‘pallu‘ to the right. It used to cause difficulty in working. He advised that if you keep the ‘pallu‘ on the left shoulder, it will be easier to work. This tradition has been going on since then.
Visva- Bharati, founded in 1921
Visva-Bharati is the oldest Central University in the country, founded in 1921 by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. In May 1951, it was declared a Central University and Institution of National Importance.
PM has attended 5 universities in the last 2 months
On 19 October, Prime Minister Modi attended the centenary convocation of University of Mysore. Taking virtual part in the program of this old university established in the year 1916, Prime Minister Modi explained to the youth the true meaning of education and initiation.
On 12 November, the Prime Minister participated in a program of JNU. Taking part in Swami Vivekananda’s statue unveiling ceremony, Prime Minister Modi gave a message to the youth that the ideology is later, the country is first.
On 21 November, Prime Minister Modi, at the eighth convocation of Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar, conferred degrees and diplomas to 2600 students and appealed them to contribute to the development of the country.
On 25 November, while participating in the 100-year program of Lucknow University located in the capital of Uttar Pradesh, the youth was informed about the objectives of the new National Education Policy.
On 22 December, PM Modi took part in the centenary celebrations of Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh, which was in the discussion about the movement against CAA. He counted the work done in the education sector. He also said, ” There are different religious sentiments in the world and are not denied. But when it comes to nation, these should not matter. The thoughts and philosophies are not denied but these should be kept at bay when it comes to the development of the country.”
