‘November’ is here and men have finally got the chance to let their moustaches grow wild and free and proudly flaunt their bearded look.
Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com. The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health.”
By encouraging men (whom the charity refers to as “Mo Bros”) to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Using the moustache as the driving symbol of the movement, Movember focuses on the three key areas of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health & suicide prevention.
Men who participate in Movember are encouraged to donate the money they would have spent on razors, shaving utensils and barber shops.
Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.
No-Shave November:
No-Shave November is a similar but unrelated organization. Like Movember, No-Shave November raises awareness and money for men’s health initiatives. However, while Movember supports a few different causes, No-Shave November focuses solely on cancer awareness and cancer prevention because Matthew Hill, the husband and father of the family that founded No-Shave November, died from colon cancer in 2007.
Remember, people who participate in No-Shave November don’t shave anything, letting any and all facial hair (and sometimes body hair) grow out. However, you’re welcome to trim and groom if you have a strict dress code at work, the rules say.
No-Shave November is a bit more laissez-faire about the rules than Movember, which wants people to start the month completely clean-shaven and grow only a mustache.
Get Involved in Movember or No-Shave November:
Participate by growing a beard, cultivating a mustache, letting those legs go natural, and skipping that waxing appointment. Put down your razor and set up your own personal ‘Movember’ fundraising page. If you’re not ready to get hairy, sit back and support someone who is.
How to keep your beard straight and soft?
Regular grooming: Regular oiling and washing help you grow a healthy beard. Using a mild shampoo and conditioner as well as applying beard oil is mandatory to keep it naturally straight and smooth. Using beard oil will not only moisturize your facial hair but will also give your skin some hydration.
Use a comb: Use a round brush with fine fine-tooth to style your beard. With a fine-tooth comb, you can make sure that your beard is perfectly symmetrical. You can also use the round brush while blow-drying your beard to give a perfect shape. Blow-dry your beard and use your comb to brush it downwards, simultaneously.
Apply Beard Cream: Pick up a beard styling cream to keep your beard style into place. Be sure to work your beard balm well into your hair. Apply the cream and give a shape to your beard accordingly with soft hands. For best results, avoid beard balms that have synthetic ingredients like petroleum jelly in the ingredients.
Use a blow dryer: Use a blow dryer on medium heat to style and give a shape to your beard. Blow dryers are one of the most effective beard styling tools a guy can use. When using a blow dryer, keep in mind to put a blow dryer at distance to avoid heat damage.
