New York: India on Tuesday attacked Pakistan for using the United Nations platform to make hate speeches against it and added that Islamabad fosters a “culture of violence” both inside and outside its borders.
While speaking at the high-level forum on the Culture of Peace convened by the President of the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly, Indian diplomat Vidisha Maitra noted: “A Culture of Peace is not just an abstract value or principle to be discussed and celebrated in conferences, but needs to be actively built into global relationships between and among member states.”
The First Secretary in India’s Permanent Mission to the UN added: “We have witnessed yet another attempt today by the delegation of Pakistan to exploit a UN platform for hate speech against India, even as it continues to foment a ‘culture of violence’ at home and across its borders. We dismiss and condemn all such efforts.”
Maitra’s stern remarks were in response to comments made by the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations at the UN General Assembly hall.
Munir Akram, in his remarks, brought up Jammu and Kashmir and mentioned the late separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, rather than focusing on the meeting’s theme.
Maitra emphasised India would continue to spread its message of humanity, democracy and non-violence, and repeated the country’s call for the application of the principles of objectivity, non-selectivity and impartiality to steer discussions at the United Nations, particularly on religion.
