Dhaka: India strongly objected to the incorrect depiction of Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan during an international seminar held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The protest was lodged by an Indian diplomat attending the event, reaffirming India’s consistent stand on its territorial integrity.
The incident occurred during a seminar organised by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), where a presentation by former Bangladeshi diplomat Tariq A. Karim displayed a map showing Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan.
Representing the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Second Secretary (Political and Information) Pooja Kumari Jha immediately raised an objection, stating that the map was factually incorrect. She asserted that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India and urged that such inaccuracies should be avoided in international forums.
Following the objection, the presenter clarified that the map had been used only for representational purposes and was not intended to indicate official international boundaries. He acknowledged India’s concerns and assured that the objection had been taken on record.
India has consistently maintained that the entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of the country. Indian diplomatic missions routinely register protests whenever the country’s territorial boundaries are misrepresented in international events or publications.
The incident once again highlights India’s firm stance on safeguarding its sovereignty and ensuring the correct depiction of its internationally recognized boundaries.
