Iran Thanks India for Attending Ayatollah Khamenei’s Funeral

Tehran: Iran has expressed its gratitude to India for extending support and solidarity during the funeral ceremonies of its late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Calling India’s participation an “unforgettable gesture of friendship,” Tehran said the move reflected the deep-rooted historical and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

In an official statement, the Iranian Embassy appreciated the Government of India for sending a high-level delegation to the funeral, stating that New Delhi’s presence during a moment of national mourning demonstrated mutual respect and the enduring bond shared by the two countries.

The embassy noted that India’s participation would always be remembered as a symbol of friendship and goodwill. It added that the support extended by India reaffirmed the strong cultural, civilizational and diplomatic relationship that has existed between the two nations for decades.

India was represented at the funeral by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, who attended the state ceremony on behalf of the Government of India. Their presence underscored New Delhi’s commitment to maintaining close ties with Tehran despite evolving geopolitical challenges.

The funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei witnessed the participation of delegations from several countries and drew millions of mourners in Tehran. Iranian officials described India’s attendance as particularly significant and expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to grow stronger in the coming years.
