Washington: Former U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has made a significant claim on her last day in office, bringing renewed global attention to the origins of COVID-19. She alleged that a top American scientist was involved in funding China’s Wuhan laboratory, which has long been under scrutiny over research linked to the coronavirus.

According to Gabbard, concerns remain over a lack of transparency within the U.S. system regarding such funding and related research activities. She specifically pointed to “gain-of-function” research, a controversial field in which viruses are modified to study their transmissibility and behavior, calling for a thorough and independent investigation into all related work conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

She further suggested that several critical details regarding the origin of COVID-19 have not been fully disclosed, which continues to fuel global debate and uncertainty over how the pandemic began.

Following her remarks, the issue has once again triggered discussions across political and scientific circles in the United States. While some view her statement as a call for greater transparency and accountability, others consider it politically motivated and caution against drawing conclusions without conclusive scientific evidence.

The origin of COVID-19 remains a disputed topic in the global scientific community. While several studies suggest a natural spillover from animals to humans, others continue to examine the possibility of a laboratory-related incident.

Gabbard’s remarks have once again reignited international discussion on pandemic origins and the oversight of high-risk biological research.
