Desk : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in the French coastal city of Nice, marking the beginning of a significant two-nation European visit that includes key diplomatic engagements, technology collaborations, and participation in the upcoming G7 Summit.
Upon arrival, Prime Minister Modi was accorded a formal reception by senior French dignitaries, including Minister of Education Édouard Geffray, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Space Philippe Baptiste, and France’s Ambassador to India Thierry Mathou.
Strategic Talks in France
The visit begins in France, where PM Modi is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron on June 14. The talks come at a time when India–France relations have been elevated to a Special Global Strategic Partnership, reflecting deepening cooperation across defence, technology, and global governance.
A key highlight of the Nice itinerary will be the joint launch of “Bharat Innovates 2026”, a three-day innovation conclave aimed at bringing together startups and venture capital firms from India, France, and other partner countries. The initiative seeks to strengthen collaboration between innovation ecosystems and expand opportunities in emerging technologies.
Historic First Visit to Slovakia
Following the France engagements, PM Modi will travel to Slovakia for a state visit scheduled from June 14 to 15. This marks the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister since Slovakia’s independence in 1993.
In Bratislava, Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico, along with interactions with leading corporate representatives. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation as well as enhancing India’s engagement with the European Union.
G7 Summit in Evian
PM Modi will return to France on June 16 to attend the G7 Summit in Evian, scheduled from June 16 to 17. India’s participation continues its consistent presence at the global forum, with this being the eighth consecutive G7 Summit invitation extended to India.
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump on June 17, where trade-related issues are likely to be a key focus area.
Highlighting India’s broader role at the summit, PM Modi reiterated that India will represent not only its national interests but also the aspirations of the Global South.
Final Stop in Paris
The final leg of the European tour will take PM Modi to Paris on June 18, where he is expected to attend the VivaTech 2026 technology exhibition alongside President Macron and interact with members of the Indian diaspora.
The visit underscores India’s expanding diplomatic outreach in Europe, with a strong emphasis on innovation, strategic partnerships, and global economic cooperation.
