Hyderabad : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that India’s ambitious Mission Sudarshan Chakra will significantly strengthen the country’s security architecture and emerge as a robust multi-layered air and missile defence system. Describing it as a strong security shield for the nation, he stressed that resilience and deterrence are essential for safeguarding national interests in the evolving nature of warfare.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Advanced Weapon Systems Complex at the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad, Singh praised the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), particularly its Missile Systems and Strategic Systems Cluster, for making substantial contributions to India’s technological excellence, strategic self-reliance and national security.

The Defence Minister said that the successful performance of indigenous missile systems during Operation Sindoor demonstrated the growing capabilities of India’s defence research and development ecosystem. He noted that home-grown systems such as Akash and BrahMos have proved that India is capable of competing with leading nations in the field of defence technology.

Singh stated that Mission Sudarshan Chakra is being developed as a comprehensive multi-layered missile defence system designed to protect strategic assets, military installations and critical infrastructure from a wide range of aerial threats. He said the project would further strengthen the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the defence sector.

Highlighting future challenges, the Defence Minister urged DRDO scientists to focus not only on addressing present security concerns but also on developing next-generation technologies. He said artificial intelligence, hypersonic weapons, electronic warfare systems and autonomous platforms would shape the future battlefield, and India must strive to become a leader in these domains.

During the event, Singh also reviewed an exhibition showcasing advanced defence technologies, indigenous missile platforms and cutting-edge weapon systems developed by DRDO.
