Desk : Nepal has firmly rejected any involvement of a third party in its ongoing border dispute with India, reiterating that the issue is strictly bilateral in nature. The statement comes in the wake of political controversy triggered by recent remarks linked to Prime Minister Balen Shah, which suggested possible external involvement in resolving the border issue.

Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal clarified in Parliament that all border-related matters with India will be addressed only through direct diplomatic dialogue between the two countries. He emphasized that Kathmandu does not support or accept mediation or intervention by any third country.

The controversy gained momentum after Balen Shah’s reported comments sparked debate over whether Nepal was considering external stakeholders, including global powers, in addressing the long-standing border dispute. The remarks drew attention in diplomatic circles and prompted reactions from India, which reiterated that border issues must be resolved bilaterally without third-party involvement.

Nepal’s latest clarification is being seen as an attempt to stabilize the diplomatic situation and reaffirm its traditional policy of resolving disputes with India through direct engagement. It also signals an effort to prevent further escalation following the political noise generated by the controversy.

The development once again brings focus to the sensitive nature of India-Nepal border relations, where political statements and diplomatic assurances continue to shape the discourse.
