Dubai: Seven Indian workers lost their lives and nine others were injured in a tragic road accident in Dubai on Monday after a minibus carrying them collided with a truck on Emirates Road.
According to Dubai Police, preliminary investigations revealed that the truck had come to a sudden halt in the middle of the road due to a technical malfunction. The minibus, which was transporting Indian workers, reportedly crashed into the stationary truck from behind.
Authorities said the accident claimed seven lives and left nine people injured. Among the injured, five sustained serious injuries while four suffered moderate wounds. All the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said initial findings indicated that the bus driver failed to maintain a safe distance from the truck and was unable to avoid the collision.
The Indian Consulate in Dubai expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and said it is working closely with local authorities to provide all possible assistance to the victims and their families. Consular officials visited the injured workers in hospital and assured support during the difficult period.
Dubai Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Traffic accident experts were deployed to examine the crash site and determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision. Emergency teams also cleared the damaged vehicles and restored normal traffic movement on the highway.
The accident has once again highlighted concerns regarding road safety and the welfare of migrant workers in the Gulf region.
