New Delhi: Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a five-day official visit aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations between India and Venezuela and expanding cooperation across key sectors.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Rodriguez will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her visit. She is also scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and other senior Indian leaders. Discussions are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in energy, trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation, and renewable energy.
Rodriguez is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Venezuela’s ministers of foreign affairs, economy and finance, science and technology, communication and information, and transportation. She is scheduled to meet Jaishankar on June 4, followed by official talks with Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House. As part of her itinerary, she will also pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
The MEA said both sides will review the entire spectrum of India-Venezuela relations and explore new opportunities for collaboration in strategic sectors. The Venezuelan delegation will also visit facilities related to India’s energy, pharmaceutical, and automobile industries to gain insights into the country’s industrial capabilities and identify areas for future partnership.
Economic ties between the two countries have continued to grow. Bilateral trade between India and Venezuela stood at USD 678.94 million during the financial year 2025-26. Energy cooperation remains a key pillar of the relationship, with Venezuela emerging as India’s third-largest supplier of crude oil in May 2026.
Rodriguez has previously visited India as Venezuela’s Foreign Minister in 2015 and as Vice President in 2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025. This marks her sixth visit to India and is being viewed as an important step toward deepening engagement between the two countries, which share long-standing friendly relations and cooperation in energy, trade, healthcare, and development initiatives.
