Zero Tolerance at Borders: India Orders Demolition of Illegal Structures in 15 km Zone

Bikaner/New Delhi : Union Home Minister Amit Shah has issued a major directive to strengthen security arrangements in border areas, ordering the identification and demolition of all illegal structures within a 15-kilometre radius of India’s international borders.

During a high-level security review meeting held in Bikaner, the Home Minister stated that no unauthorized construction or suspicious infrastructure in border regions would be tolerated anymore, calling it a matter directly linked to national security. He emphasized strict enforcement of a “zero tolerance policy” in such cases.

He directed officials to prepare a detailed list of all illegal constructions built over the years in border districts and ensure their phased demolition. He also underlined that border security is not solely the responsibility of the armed forces, but also requires strong coordination between local administration and intelligence agencies.

The meeting also reviewed issues related to cross-border smuggling, use of fake documents, illegal bank accounts, and suspicious financial activities. The Home Minister instructed agencies to identify such networks and take decisive action to dismantle them completely.

He further directed strict monitoring of banking transactions and commercial activities in border districts, with special surveillance on suspicious companies and individuals operating in the region.

The review emphasized the need to strengthen technology-driven surveillance systems and improve coordination at the local level to ensure effective border management.

According to the government, unchecked illegal construction and unregulated activities in border areas can pose serious threats to national security, making timely and strict action essential.
