New Delhi: Amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran and growing concerns over a global oil crisis, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made seven key appeals to the citizens of India. Stressing the need for economic caution and national preparedness, the Prime Minister urged people to adopt energy-saving measures and promote self-reliance.
Addressing a public gathering, PM Modi said the ongoing geopolitical situation in West Asia could impact India’s economy as well, and therefore citizens should act responsibly and carefully in the coming months.
PM Modi’s Seven Major Appeals
The Prime Minister urged citizens to adopt the following measures:
- Prefer work from home wherever possible
- Reduce petrol and diesel consumption
- Use metro services and public transport more frequently
- Avoid purchasing gold for one year
- Limit unnecessary foreign travel
- Prioritize Indian and indigenous products
- Promote natural farming and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers
PM Modi stated that collective efforts by citizens could help India save foreign exchange reserves and reduce economic pressure during global uncertainty.
Impact of Oil Crisis on India
Experts believe that the ongoing US-Iran tensions have pushed global crude oil prices upward. Since India imports a large portion of its energy requirements, any major rise in oil prices directly affects inflation, transportation costs, and household expenses.
Economists warn that if the crisis continues for a longer period, India’s import bill may rise significantly, putting additional pressure on the Indian rupee and the overall economy.
Government Says No Need to Panic
The government has clarified that there is currently no shortage of petrol, diesel, or cooking gas in the country. Adequate fuel reserves are available, and supply chains remain stable.
However, the government is encouraging precautionary measures to ensure controlled fuel consumption and economic stability in case the global crisis deepens further.
Experts also see the Prime Minister’s appeal as a broader message promoting long-term self-reliance and sustainable economic planning, beyond the immediate geopolitical tensions.
