New Delhi: India has achieved a significant milestone in the defence sector by successfully testing an indigenously developed hypersonic anti-ship missile with a strike range of up to 1500 kilometres. The test was conducted off the coast of Odisha and is being seen as a major boost to the country’s strategic and maritime capabilities.
The missile has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). During the trial, the missile accurately hit its designated target, successfully meeting all mission objectives and technical parameters. Officials confirmed that the test validated the system’s performance as per expectations.
One of the key features of this advanced missile is its hypersonic speed, exceeding Mach 5, which makes it extremely difficult for enemy radar and air defence systems to detect and intercept. Coupled with its long-range capability of 1500 km, the missile significantly enhances the Indian Navy’s ability to strike hostile targets deep in the sea.
Defence experts believe that this development will considerably strengthen India’s naval power and provide a strategic edge in the Indian Ocean region. The missile is capable of targeting enemy warships and critical maritime assets with high precision.
With this successful test, India further consolidates its position among a select group of nations possessing hypersonic weapon technology. The achievement also marks a major step forward in the country’s push towards defence self-reliance under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.
