New Delhi: India has received its fourth S-400 air defence missile system from Russia, marking a significant boost to the country’s strategic and aerial defence capabilities. The advanced system is expected to arrive in India by mid-May.
According to sources, Indian Air Force officials recently completed the pre-delivery inspection of the system in Russia, following which it was dispatched to India. The new unit is likely to be deployed in the western sector to strengthen defence preparedness along the border.
The S-400 is considered one of the most advanced long-range air defence systems in the world. It is capable of detecting and destroying fighter aircraft, drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles at long range. India has already inducted three S-400 systems, which are deployed at key strategic locations.
Reports suggest that India is also expected to receive the fifth and final S-400 system later this year. In addition, the government has approved the purchase of more S-400 units and additional missiles to further strengthen the country’s multi-layered air defence network.
Defence experts believe the arrival of the fourth S-400 system will significantly enhance India’s surveillance, response capability and overall border security.
