Manila/New Delhi : In a significant development in Southeast Asia’s evolving security landscape, the Philippines will showcase India-supplied supersonic cruise missile system BrahMos missile during the upcoming Balikatan 2026 joint military exercise with the United States.
According to official sources, the Philippine Marine Corps will conduct a simulated maritime strike exercise using the BrahMos system. While no live firing will take place, the drill will test operational readiness, deployment procedures, and combat response capabilities in a realistic wartime scenario.
Strategic message in the South China Sea region
Defense analysts view the inclusion of BrahMos in the exercise as more than a routine military drill. The South China Sea has long been a flashpoint due to competing territorial claims, and the demonstration is being seen as a clear signal of deterrence and enhanced defensive preparedness by the Philippines.
Boost for India’s defense export profile
The development also marks a notable milestone for India’s defense exports. This is one of the first instances where an Indian-origin missile system is being actively integrated into a major joint exercise involving U.S. forces, highlighting India’s growing role in global defense cooperation.
About the BrahMos system
