KP Sharma Oli Discharged After Surgery Amid Homicide Probe

Kathmandu : Former Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been discharged from hospital after spending three weeks under medical care following his arrest in a homicide-related case.

Oli, who is also chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), underwent surgery earlier this week to remove a gallbladder stone. His private secretariat said he was discharged on Saturday evening after his condition improved.

He had been admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj shortly after his arrest on March 28, citing health complications. Doctors later confirmed that a 22 mm stone had been removed from his gallbladder during surgery. Hospital sources said his recovery was satisfactory.

Earlier reports said Oli was briefly detained in connection with an ongoing investigation before being shifted to hospital care. Authorities stated that he remained under observation until doctors declared him fit for discharge.

Oli had earlier recorded his statement through video conference regarding casualties linked to the Gen-Z Movement protests held on September 8 and 9, 2025.

A probe commission headed by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki was formed to investigate the violence and deaths during the protests. Police later arrested Oli following the commission’s recommendations.

The government has accused him in connection with deaths that occurred during the demonstrations, and homicide-related charges have been filed as part of the ongoing investigation.
