Marriage is one of the most sacred and profound bonds in a person’s life. It is not just the union of two souls, but also the coming together of two families in love, respect, and trust. In Hindu tradition, marriage is viewed not merely as a social ceremony, but as the beginning of a spiritual journey. This is why the timing, date, and auspicious moment (muhurat) hold such deep significance in performing this sacred ritual.
According to religious beliefs, a marriage conducted on the right date and under favorable planetary positions brings happiness, prosperity, and stability to the marital life. For this reason, people carefully consider the astrological calendar, tithi (lunar day), nakshatra (star), and lagna (ascendant) before fixing a wedding date. It is believed that a marriage performed during a blessed muhurat ensures a harmonious beginning and strengthens the bond of love for seven lifetimes.
Auspicious Dates for Marriage in March
This year, several auspicious opportunities for marriage are coming up. Particularly in the month of March, there are 8 dates considered highly favorable for weddings: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, and 12th March. Marriages conducted on these dates are believed to bring happiness, peace, and harmony into married life.
From 15th March onwards, Kharmaas will begin. According to tradition, Kharmaas is considered an inauspicious period for weddings or other auspicious events. It is instead a time for introspection, spiritual practice, and personal reflection. After mid-April, when Kharmaas ends, auspicious dates for weddings will become available again.
Caution for Remaining February Days
For the remaining days of February, 21st, 24th, 25th, and 26th are considered favorable for weddings. However, this period also coincides with Holāṣṭaka, an eight-day phase before Holi considered unsuitable for performing sacred or auspicious activities. Any marriage or auspicious ceremony during this time should be performed only after consulting a knowledgeable priest or astrologer.
Marriage is more than just a social celebration; it is the beginning of a spiritual journey together. Choosing the right date and muhurat with care ensures that this sacred bond brings joy, love, and lasting stability to life.
