New Delhi: India on Thursday defended its abstention in a vote at the UN Human Rights Council that led to the setting up of an inquiry into rights violations during the Israel-Hamas conflict, saying it had also acted in a similar manner in the past. India was among the 14 countries including Brazil, France, Italy and Nepal that abstained during the UNHRC vote. The MEA said this was not a new position and India had abstained from voting on previous occasions as well.
