Festive Flavors for Karva Chauth – Creamy Punjabi Dal Makhani

On such a festive night time, a creamy Punjabi Dal Makhani on the plate makes the celebration much more particular. Often known as the satisfaction of Punjabi delicacies, Dal Makhani is beloved for its wealthy taste and buttery, creamy texture. Right here’s how one can make restaurant-style Dal Makhani at house—

Components (Serves 4)

  • Complete black gram (Urad dal) – 1 cup
  • Kidney beans (Rajma) – ¼ cup
  • Tomatoes – 3 (pureed)
  • Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Inexperienced chilies – 2 (finely chopped)
  • Butter – 4 tbsp
  • Recent cream – ½ cup
  • Pink chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala – ½ tsp
  • Dried fenugreek leaves (Kasuri methi) – 1 tsp (roasted and crushed)
  • Salt – to style

Technique

  1. Soak and cook dinner the lentils
    Soak urad dal and rajma in a single day. Subsequent morning, rinse and strain cook dinner them with salt and turmeric for six–7 whistles, till smooth.
  2. Put together the tempering
    Warmth butter in a pan. Add chopped onions and sauté till golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and inexperienced chilies, and fry till fragrant.
  3. Add the tomato base
    Stir within the tomato puree together with chili powder and coriander powder. Cook dinner till the masala releases oil.
  4. Mix the dal
    Add the cooked dal and rajma to this masala. Regulate water as required and let it simmer on a low flame for 25–half-hour, stirring sometimes so the flavors mix nicely.
  5. Make it creamy
    Add a knob of butter, recent cream, and crushed kasuri methi. Simmer for one more 10 minutes. Lastly, sprinkle garam masala and blend nicely.

Serving Suggestion

Garnish your Dal Makhani with a swirl of cream and a dollop of butter. Serve sizzling with butter naan, tandoori roti, or jeera rice.
