Say Goodbye to Dry, Chapped Lips

Dry and chapped lips are a common issue that affects people of all ages—men, women, and children alike—especially during extreme summers and winters. In summer, dry and hot winds can strip the moisture from your lips, leading to peeling, cracking, and eventually darkening of the lips. To combat this, here are some practical tips that can help you take care of your lips during hot weather.

What to Keep in Mind to Prevent Chapped Lips

Hydration is Key:
One of the primary reasons for dry lips is dehydration. To prevent it, make sure you stay well-hydrated throughout the day by drinking enough water. If you spend a lot of time in air-conditioned environments, remember that the air from ACs is typically dry and can worsen lip dryness. In such cases, using a humidifier can help by adding moisture to the air, which in turn keeps your lips hydrated.

How to Heal Dry and Chapped Lips

Use Lip Balm:
If your lips are extremely dry and cracked, opt for a thick lip balm, preferably one with petroleum jelly. Unlike wax or oil-based products, petroleum jelly lasts longer on the lips and provides better protection.

Apply Natural Oils:
Oils act as natural moisturizers. Coconut oil deeply hydrates the skin and is safe for use on lips. Olive oil is another good option—it softens the lips and helps prevent further damage.

Honey:
For severely chapped lips, sometimes to the point of bleeding, honey can act as a natural moisturizer and healing agent. It soothes cracked lips and promotes faster healing.

Habits to Avoid for Better Lip Care

Many people instinctively lick their lips when they feel dry, but this can actually worsen the condition. Saliva evaporates quickly and leaves the lips even drier than before. So, it’s best to avoid this habit to protect your lips from further damage.
