Vat Savitri Vrat 2025: Date, Muhurat, and Puja Vidhi

Vat Savitri Vrat is a significant festival in Hinduism, primarily observed by married women who pray for the long life and well-being of their husbands. This vrat (fast) is observed on the Amavasya (new moon day) of the Jyeshtha month in the Hindu calendar.

The origin of this vrat is traced back to Princess Savitri, daughter of King Ashwapati, who performed this fast for her husband Satyavan’s life and well-being. Since then, the tradition has been followed by countless women as a mark of love and devotion.

Vat Savitri Vrat 2025 Date

This year, Vat Savitri Vrat will be observed on Monday, May 26, 2025, as per the Hindu Panchang.

How to Observe Vat Savitri Vrat

According to Pandit Janardan, the vrat begins early in the morning during Brahma Muhurat. Married women take a bath and make a vow to observe the fast. After adorning themselves with solah shringar (sixteen traditional ornaments), they carry puja items in two baskets and proceed to a banyan tree (Vat Vriksha).

They sit beneath the tree, listen to the story of Savitri and Satyavan, and water the tree. The ritual continues with applying roli and sandalwood paste on the tree, tying sacred thread (kalawa) around it while performing circumambulations (parikrama), and offering prayers for their husband’s longevity.
