Desk:The Pakistani army once again violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) on the night of May 1, opening fire with small arms in several regions of Jammu and Kashmir. This incident occurred in the Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Nowshera, and Akhnoor sectors, to which the Indian Army responded promptly and effectively.
An Indian Army spokesperson stated, “On the night of May 1-2, Pakistani army posts initiated small arms fire across the LoC in front of Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Nowshera, and Akhnoor, without any provocation. The Indian Army retaliated immediately and appropriately.” There have been no reports of casualties from this exchange.
This marks the eighth consecutive night that the Pakistani army has violated the ceasefire along the LoC. Since April 24, similar incidents have occurred in sectors spanning from Kupwara and Baramulla to Poonch, Akhnoor, Sundarbani, Nowshera, and the Pargwal sector in Jammu.
Tension Escalates After Pahalgam Attack
These violations have escalated following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people. In retaliation to this attack, India suspended the Indus Water Treaty on April 24. Pakistan had warned that any attempt to divert water under the treaty would be considered an “act of war.”
India-Pakistan DGMO Talks
Meanwhile, military officials from both India and Pakistan held a hotline conversation on Tuesday. During the conversation, the Indian side issued a stern warning to Pakistan against unprovoked firing. Pakistani forces have been given a strong admonition regarding these provocations.
Increased Vigilance on the Border
Amid rising tensions along the LoC, counter-terrorism operations have been intensified in the Kashmir Valley. Security forces have launched search operations in Anantnag, Pulwama, and Shopian areas. Alerts have been issued for border regions, and security has been heightened in nearby towns.
India’s Position
The Indian Army has made it clear that it maintains full control over the situation along the LoC and is fully prepared to respond to any provocation. Recently, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the military’s readiness.
