Desk:Pakistan, already grappling with terrorism, poverty, and multiple crises, now faces a new challenge—an internal rebellion within its own military. Junior officers of the Pakistan Army have raised their voices against Army Chief General Asim Munir, demanding his resignation. They have warned Munir to step down or face severe consequences, signaling deep unrest within the ranks.
According to CNN-News18, a group of junior officers, including colonels, captains, and soldiers, have written a letter to General Munir, accusing him of transforming the military into a tool for political oppression and personal vendettas. The letter, which has sent shockwaves through Pakistan’s power corridors, bluntly tells Munir that his time is over and that he must resign immediately.
The letter even references Pakistan’s humiliating defeat in the 1971 war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh. It states, “This is not a plea, nor a negotiation. This is your 1971, General, and we will not let you be buried in its shadow.” The officers accuse Munir of suppressing political dissent, silencing journalists, undermining democratic forces, and damaging the military’s reputation. The letter also highlights the violent crackdown following the removal of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and alleged electoral fraud in the 2024 elections.
The rebellious officers claim that they represent the collective voice of Pakistan’s armed forces, including colonels, majors, captains, and soldiers. The letter further states, “We have witnessed you dragging our institution, our nation, and our honor into disgrace. Your time is up. Resign immediately, or we will take back what you have stolen, even if we have to use force.”
This internal rift in the Pakistan Army poses a serious challenge for the Shehbaz Sharif government, as the military plays a decisive role in the country’s political landscape. The rebellion among junior officers indicates that the road ahead for the government will be far from smooth.
