The festival of Chaitra Navratri, dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga in her nine divine forms, will commence on March 30, 2025, with Kalash Sthapana (Ghatasthapana). This year, Maa Jagdamba will be worshiped under the Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga, which is considered highly auspicious. Notably, the Goddess will arrive on an elephant, symbolizing prosperity and abundance.
Chaitra Navratri begins on the Pratipada Tithi (first day) of Shukla Paksha and will continue until April 7, 2025. The first day marks the establishment of the sacred Kalash and the observance of the first fast. Devotees will worship Maa Shailputri, the first form of Goddess Durga, on this day. Each of the nine days is dedicated to a different manifestation of the Goddess.
Preparations Underway in Temples and Homes
Temples across the country, including Sakchi Sheetla Mandir and Manokamna Mandir, have started preparations for the festival. Cleaning, decorations, and painting work are in progress. Devotees have also begun their preparations at home, setting up sacred spaces for the Navratri puja. Ritualistic worship and ceremonies will be conducted with great devotion and adherence to traditions.
Goddess Durga’s Arrival & Departure on an Elephant – A Good Omen
This year, Chaitra Navratri begins on a Sunday, and according to astrological beliefs, Goddess Durga’s arrival on an elephant is considered extremely auspicious, signifying prosperity and growth. Interestingly, Maa Durga’s departure on April 7 will also be on an elephant, further reinforcing this good omen. Worshiping the Goddess during this period is believed to fulfill the wishes of devotees.
Only 8 Days of Navratri This Year
According to the Hindu Panchang, this year’s Chaitra Navratri will last for only 8 days instead of the usual 9, due to the omission of Panchami Tithi. Despite this, all rituals and celebrations will be conducted with the same fervor and devotion.
Kalash Sthapana Muhurat
Kalash Sthapana is the most important ritual that marks the beginning of Navratri. It must be performed during an auspicious muhurta. The best time for Kalash Sthapana on March 30, 2025, is:
- Morning Muhurat: 6:13 AM – 10:22 AM
- Abhijit Muhurat: 12:01 PM – 12:50 PM
Devotees should perform Kalash Sthapana during these favorable hours and take a sankalp (vow) for their Navratri fast and worship.
Chaitra Navratri is a time of devotion, discipline, and divine blessings. By worshiping Maa Durga with a pure heart, devotees can seek her grace for prosperity, happiness, and success.
