Desk: Donald Trump is set to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday. Reports suggest that soon after taking office, Trump might plan visits to India and China. While there has been no official confirmation, indications point to these countries being on his agenda.
Focus on India and China
Media reports reveal that Trump’s advisors have indicated his interest in visiting China by directly engaging with President Xi Jinping. Furthermore, Trump has expressed a desire to visit India in April, with initial talks already underway. Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reportedly began discussions during his recent U.S. visit in December.
Speculations suggest an official announcement might follow soon. Meanwhile, Jaishankar is expected to meet his counterparts from the U.S., Japan, and Australia to discuss the upcoming Quad Summit. India and China are being viewed as pivotal countries requiring Trump’s negotiation skills.
Trade and Diplomacy
During his election campaign, Trump had warned of imposing additional tariffs on China. Now, reports suggest that Trump wishes to ease tensions with Xi Jinping stemming from these earlier statements. Similarly, his potential India visit is seen as an opportunity to strengthen ties with a key partner.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump’s team has confirmed his intention to visit China post-inauguration to rebuild relations. Advisors have also hinted at a possible visit to India for strategic and economic discussions.
Inauguration Ceremony Highlights
Leaders from several countries are set to attend Trump’s swearing-in ceremony. Among them are Chinese Vice President representing Xi Jinping, Argentine President Javier Milei, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Trump has also extended invitations to other global dignitaries.
Mukesh and Nita Ambani Meet Trump
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani were among a select group of Indian personalities invited to a special pre-inauguration dinner hosted by Trump. The event, attended by influential American business leaders, politicians, and foreign dignitaries, was held in Washington, D.C.
Sources confirm that Mukesh and Nita Ambani participated in the exclusive “Candlelight Dinner” as part of the 100 distinguished guests. Mukesh Ambani arrived in Washington on January 18 for the event.
This move reflects Trump’s intention to engage with key global leaders and stakeholders as he begins his presidency.
