Desk:Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has made significant remarks about the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. On Saturday, he revealed that 60% of the terrorists killed last year were of Pakistani origin. He stated, “Currently, over 80% of the remaining terrorists in the valley and Jammu region are believed to be of Pakistani origin. The situation in Jammu and Kashmir is under control. The ceasefire agreed upon by DGMOs along the Line of Control (LoC) in February 2021 remains effective. However, the terrorist infrastructure is intact, and infiltration attempts through the International Border (IB) sector continue. Recently, there has been a surge in terrorist activities in North Kashmir and the Doda-Kishtwar belt.”
The Army Chief highlighted that over 5 lakh pilgrims participated in this year’s Amarnath Yatra, reflecting a positive change. “Peaceful elections indicate a shift towards normalcy,” he added. He also mentioned the theme of transitioning “from terrorism to tourism” is gradually taking shape.
Focusing on the northern borders, General Dwivedi said, “The situation in areas like Depsang and Demchok in eastern Ladakh has stabilized since October. Patrolling and traditional grazing activities have resumed. I have authorized my sub-commanders to handle issues like these at the ground level to resolve them militarily.”
He emphasized that India’s deployment along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is “balanced and strong,” with the Army prepared to handle any scenario. “Capacity development along the northern borders has introduced advanced technologies into our combat systems,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Jammu’s Akhnoor sector, the Army launched a search operation following reports of suspicious terrorist activity. Using drones and other equipment, various Army units combed the Bhattal area after locals reported suspicious movements in the Jogivan forest. It is suspected that the individuals spotted were infiltrating terrorists.
