New Delhi:Today, India is celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of its former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the Bharat Ratna awardee at the “Sadaiv Atal” memorial in Rajghat. During his visit, PM Modi stated that Vajpayee dedicated his life to building a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant India. Alongside PM Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah also visited the memorial to honor the late leader.
Earlier, PM Modi shared a message on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying,
“I pay my respectful tribute to former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji on his 100th birth anniversary. He devoted his life to building a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant India. His vision and mission will continue to inspire the resolve of a developed India.”
PM Modi also shared an article on the NaMo app, highlighting Vajpayee’s commitment to constitutional values and how he gave India a new direction and momentum. He remarked,
“It has been my privilege to have received his immense guidance and blessings.”
Born on this day in 1924, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was one of the founding members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as India’s Prime Minister three times. His first term in 1996 lasted only 13 days, but he returned to lead the country in 1998 for 13 months. In 1999, he became the Prime Minister for the third time and became the first non-Congress leader to complete a full term as Prime Minister.
