During the winter season, our diet undergoes significant changes to keep the body warm and provide essential nutrients. One such winter favorite is bajra (pearl millet). Packed with vital nutrients and naturally warm in nature, bajra is a superfood perfect for cold weather. Bajra-based dishes like rotis, tikkis, mathris, khichdi, and laddoos are popular in households during this time. Among these, bajra laddoos stand out as a delicious and nutritious treat. Including these laddoos in your family’s winter diet is a great way to promote health. Here’s a simple and tasty recipe to try this season!

Ingredients for Bajra Laddoos

  • Bajra flour: 200 grams (about 1.5 cups)
  • Jaggery: 1 cup
  • Desi ghee: 1.5 cups
  • Cashews: 10-12
  • Almonds: 10-12
  • Edible gum (gond): 2 tablespoons
  • Grated dry coconut: 2-3 tablespoons
  • Cardamom powder: 1/2 teaspoon

Step-by-Step Recipe for Bajra Laddoos

  1. Roast the Gond:
    Heat a pan on low flame and add desi ghee. Once the ghee melts, add the edible gum (gond) and roast it on low flame until golden. Remove the roasted gond and set it aside.
  2. Roast the Bajra Flour:
    In the same pan, add bajra flour to the remaining ghee. If needed, add more ghee to ensure the flour is evenly coated. Roast the flour on medium-low heat, stirring continuously until it changes color and releases a pleasant aroma. Once done, remove it from the heat and let it cool.
  3. Prepare the Jaggery:
    While the flour cools, crush the jaggery into small pieces. Alternatively, you can use powdered jaggery, desi khandsari, or sugar. Melt the jaggery in a pan over low heat and let it cool slightly until lukewarm.
  4. Mix the Ingredients:
    To the roasted bajra flour, add chopped dry fruits (cashews, almonds), roasted gond, grated dry coconut, and cardamom powder. Mix everything thoroughly. Gradually pour the melted jaggery into the mixture and combine well with your hands.
  5. Shape the Laddoos:
    Once the mixture is well combined, take small portions and shape them into laddoos.

Your tasty and healthy bajra laddoos are now ready! These laddoos are a perfect treat to enjoy during winter, offering warmth and nutrition in every bite. Make sure to try them this season!
