Desk: A Bitter Alliance – Pakistan and China’s Continued Moves Against India
India Today reports that according to sources, Pakistan’s intelligence agency, under directives from China, is actively gathering intelligence on India’s iconic Chenab Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir. Both Pakistani and Chinese intelligence agencies are believed to be collecting critical information about this bridge, a strategic infrastructure project.
The Chenab Bridge connects the districts of Reasi and Ramban and is recognized as the world’s tallest railway bridge. Recently, a successful trial run was conducted on the bridge, which has already gained global recognition.
Why is the Chenab Bridge Special?
Spanning over the Chenab River, this bridge towers at approximately 359 meters (1,178 feet) – surpassing even the height of the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris. Indian Railways has conducted a landmark trial, running a MEMU train for the first time across a 46-kilometer stretch from Sangaldan to Reasi in the Kashmir Valley.
Currently, Kashmir’s connectivity with the rest of India is frequently disrupted during winter, as heavy snowfall often blocks the highway. The Chenab Bridge promises strategic advantages for India, ensuring more reliable access to the region. The Himalayan territory of Kashmir has long been a focal point of tensions between India and Pakistan, and this bridge’s strategic location adds to its significance.
