New Delhi: Nepal, which had spoiled relations with its trustworthy neighbor ‘India’ because of China, got support in the hour of crisis from India itself. The Government of India has dispatched one million doses of Corona Vaccine Covishield of Serum Institute to Nepal. India started delivering COVID-19 vaccines under grant assistance to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Seychelles from Wednesday, and that shipments will be sent to Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Mauritius as well on receipt of necessary regulatory clearances.
The first consignment of Covishield vaccine has been dispatched to Nepal from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.The consignment contains one million dosages of Covishield vaccine.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the Government of India has received several requests from neighboring and major partner countries for the supply of ‘Made In India’ vaccines.
“In response to these requests, and in keeping with India’s stated commitment to use India”s vaccine production and delivery capacity to help all of humanity fight the COVID pandemic, supplies under grant assistance to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Seychelles will begin from January 20,” it said.
“India is providing one million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Nepal under grant assistance,” Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi said on Wednesday at a joint press meet organised by the Health Ministry and the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
The vaccines that India, which launched its vaccination drive against Covid-19 on Saturday, is providing to Nepal are developed by the University of Oxford and drug manufacturing giant AstraZeneca and produced by the Serum Institute of India.
2 million dose of COVID-19 vaccine also dispatched to Bangladesh
India has also delivered 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine ‘Covishield’ as a gift to its neighboring country Bangladesh. These vaccines dispatched to Dhaka in a special aircraft from Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
