New york: India’s flag was installed at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) stakeout on Monday as the country began its two-year tenure as a non-permanent member of the powerful UN body.
India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador TS Tirumurti installed the tricolour and made brief remarks about India’s plans as a UNSC non-permanent member.
Flags of four other new incoming non-permanent members – Ireland, Kenya, Mexico and Norway – were also installed at the stakeout during a special ceremony today.
The flag installation ceremony was started by Kazakhstan in 2018.
Meanwhile, the UNSC saw Belgium, Dominican Republic, Germany, Indonesia, and South Africa leave the non-permanent seats of the UN’s top body.
