Over the span of the most recent 50 years, white gold has gotten altogether more popular than model yellow gold and is in all actuality the as often as possible picked metal for wedding rings.

White gold is an alloy, that is a mixture of gold with other metals.Pure gold has the characteristic, yellow, “golden” color.

In other words we can say, white gold is a mixture of gold alloys that bleach the deep yellow of pure gold. They are often used to enhance diamonds and other gemstones.

White gold is an alloy with at least one white metal (e.g. not copper), most frequently nickel, palladium or manganese. Its properties strongly depend on the kind and amount of the added white metal(s). A common white gold alloy is 90% gold and 10% nickel.

The rising popularity of the white sparkle made even the paleness of gold turn into whiteness. White gold was introduced in the European market in 1920s as a substitute for platinum. But gradually, it became a jewelry metal in its own right. The white gold jewelry is quite popular with the women in the West and it still dominates the scene.

White gold is a popular alternative to yellow gold, silver, or platinum. Some people prefer the silver color of white gold to the yellow color of normal gold, yet may find silver to be too soft or too easily tarnished or the cost of platinum to be prohibitive. While white gold contains varying amounts of gold, which is always yellow, it also contains one or more white metals to lighten its color and add strength and durability.

The most common white metals that form the white gold alloy are nickel, palladium, platinum and manganese. Sometimes copper, zinc or silver are added. However, copper and silver form undesirable colored oxides in air or on the skin, so other metals are preferable. The purity of white gold is expressed in karats, the same as with yellow gold. The gold content is typically stamped into the metal (e.g., 10K, 18K).

White gold bridal jewelry is increasingly getting popular. White gold jewelry is often rhodium-plated to improve appearance. For many consumers, the colour of rhodium has become the norm for the colour of white gold, because that’s what they are used to seeing on jewelry described as white gold. White gold wearers can be disappointed to discover that their jewelry has become off-white as the rhodium polish wears off. This type of jewelry needs extra care and if used frequently needs extra rhodium plating.
