Lahore: The mastermind of the 26/11 attack in Mumbai and Lashkar-e-Taiba mastermind Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi was arrested in Pakistan. According to Pakistani media report, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi has been arrested for providing help and money to the terrorists. Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, along with Hafiz Saeed, conspired for the 26/11 attack.
Lakhvi was on bail since 2015 in the Mumbai attack case. He was arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab province. However, the CTD has not revealed where his arrest took place. Following an intelligence-based operation conducted by the CTD Punjab, proscribed organisation LeT leader Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi was arrested on charges of terrorism financing.
Lakhvi (61) was arrested in a case related to terrorism funding at CTD police station in Lahore. The CTD said Lakhvi is accused of running a dispensary, using funds collected for terrorism financing. He and others also collected funds from this dispensary and used these funds for further terrorism financing.
He also used this money for personal expenses. The CTD said that apart from being associated with the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, he is also included in the list of terrorists declared by the United Nations. The case against him would go to the Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore.
Twelve years ago, on the night of November 26, 2008, 10 heavily armed terrorists from Pakistan entered Mumbai via sea route and went on a rampage. The 26/11 attack witnessed 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists going on a killing spree in the buzzing city during peak hours. More than 160 people were killed and more than 300 people were injured in the attack. People still feel heartbroken by remembering the Mumbai attack.
Rakesh Maria, former Mumbai police commissioner, has claimed in his book that the Lashkar wanted to show the 2008 Mumbai terror attack as ‘Hindu terrorism’. Apart from this, the terrorist group wanted to kill terrorist Kasab as Sameer Chaudhary of Bangalore.
Rakesh Maria in his book ‘Let Me Say It Now’ has also made big claims on many other matters including the Mumbai attack. According to the book, the ISI and Lashkar terrorists wanted to kill Kasab in jail and gave the responsibility to Dawood Ibrahim Gang. Talking about Lashkar’s Mumbai attack, Maria wrote in the book, “If everything went according to plan, Kasab Chaudhary would have died and ‘Hindu terrorists’ would have been considered behind the attack.”
